Back to school and new course
Fiscal Sociology Course in the Virtual Campus
Several months ago I met an ecuadorian colleague at a congress and she underlined to me how important my specialization issues are (fiscal sociology) and her interest to take a course related to this. For the time being I haven´t got information about any academic institution that gives that kind of course in spite of this being a relevant matter for any Tax Administrations and Ministries of the Finance anywhere. For that reason, I couldn´t suggest to her any course, but it led me to think: why don´t I design my own?
The Inter-American Center of Tax Administrations (CIAT) supported my idea and this October I will be teaching the first edition of the course entitled “Fiscal sociology as a tool for making decisions in economic and fiscal policies”.
Tax Administrations and Ministries of Finance should make decisions about tax issues and they should analyze all the decisions from a sociological point of view. In that sense, the contents of the current course will take into account the following topics from this point of view: the main characteristics of the tax culture for a specific society and the causes and consequences of fiscal fraud.
The course will be as practical as possible in order to give its pupils all relevant tools for measuring and analyzing taxes from a social point of view. It will be held online on EduCIAT and it is aimed at all medium/high level civil servants of members of CIAT and other countries interested.
What do you think about course? How interesting is the course for your country?
Registration is open to all interested. Don´t hesitate to ask me for more information by e-mail: maria.sociologiafiscal@gmail.com
