Under the auspices of the Finance Ministry of Costa Rica, LATINDADD and CIAT, Tax Administrations of Latin America discuss with civil society about BEPS
On October 18 and 19, 2016, the 5th Regional Meeting on International Taxation was held in the city of San José, Costa Rica, organized by the Latin American Network on Debt, Development and Rights (Latindadd), together with the Inter-American Center of Tax Administrations (CIAT) and the General Directorate of Taxation, Finance Ministry of Costa Rica, with the support of the Tax Justice Network of Latin America and the Caribbean.
Tax administrations delegates from 14 Latin American countries, representatives of civil society and international experts from various institutions participated in the event.
On occasion of the opening ceremony, Gonzalo Arias, CIAT’s Director of International Cooperation and Taxation, referred to the relevance of the BEPS Plan, both politically and administratively, as an opportunity and a challenge for the regional tax administrations. Likewise, the Deputy Finance Minister of Costa Rica presented the progress made by the Government in the scope of fighting international tax planning. For their part, Ana Tallada and Jorge Coronado, co-chairs of Latinddad underscored the importance of the civil society and dialogue with governments to promote the political will needed to take action against tax evasion and tax fraud.
