The CIAT Director of Tax Studies and Research, Santiago Díaz de Sarralde Miguez, participated in the T20 Africa Conference on “Building Alliances for Sustainable Development”, held in Johannesburg, South Africa from February 1 to 3, 2017.

The G-20 represents 90% of the world economy, 80% of the world trade and two-thirds of the world’s population, and is the main forum for international economic cooperation. On December 1, 2016, Germany assumed the presidency of the G20.
The conference brought together university leaders, think tanks, senior officials from South Africa, Germany, international organizations and African regional organizations; they discussed how to develop the future cooperation between the G20 and Africa and to build alliances for a sustainable development.
The topics covered were:
• Investment in infrastructure and industrialization
• E-commerce and the digital economy
• Extractive Industries, Taxes and Illicit Financial Flows
• Agriculture, Food Security and Climate
• Trade and Investment
• Empowerment of social and political environments
CIAT collaborates with the “Global Tax Cooperation” Task Force of the Think-20 (T-20). Díaz de Sarralde developed the experience of CIAT and Latin American countries in the measurement and analysis of the efficiency of Tax Expenditures, advocating for greater international collaboration and cooperation to keep strengthening the capacities of national tax administrations.
