The online interactive seminar on the use of the 2019 Corporate Tax Haven Index of the Tax Justice Network was successfully concluded
At the last meeting of the CIAT International Taxation Network held within the framework of the existing cooperation between the CIAT Executive Secretariat and the Tax Justice Network (TJN), consideration was given to the need for disseminating among the tax administrations the “Corporate Tax Haven Index”, prepared by TJN (which complements the “Financial Secrecy Index”), as a support tool for controlling tax evasion and avoidance. Said initiative was implemented through an online interactive seminar held on July 24 and 31, 2019, in Spanish and English, respectively, on the use of the new Corporate Tax Haven that was published in May 2019.
The participants in the seminar included over 100 officials from the tax administrations of 15 CIAT member countries from the Americas and Africa, namely: Angola, Argentina, Barbados, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Mexico, Suriname and the United States.
This activity provided detailed information on the main characteristics of the Index, the indicators and other useful tools for the tax administrations in the area of tax transparency.
