The CIAT Institutional Development and Events Manager, Francisco J. Beiner, completed a mission in Surinam last September 6 and 7 to meet with the Tax Director, Mr. Cornelis A. van Dijk and his staff.

The joint work focused on identifying the main components of a project to design, develop and implement a new computer system. The Tax Directorate and the Ministry of Finance study replacing the current Sales Tax with a Value Added Tax, which should be considered in the project formulation.

As part of this mission, meetings were also held with the Minister of Finance, Dr. Adelien Wijnerman and with the Central Bank Governor, Mr. Gillmore Hoefdraad.
