The DGII of Dominican Republic studies strategies to strengthen information exchange and fiscal intelligence
A group integrated by officials from CIAT, the AEAT of Spain and the Head of the Italian Mission at CIAT (Guardia di Finanza) visited the DGII of the Dominican Republic on June 25 to 27 to support the definition of strategies to strengthen International tax exchange of information and fiscal intelligence.
According to the DGII authorities, both areas are priorities within the institution’s current strategic plan, which is working towards a process-based approach.
Key aspects to achieve an effective exchange of tax information were discussed and analyzed with the DGII authorities and officials, including regulatory aspects regarding the availability, access and information exchange for tax purposes or others, the use of internal information sources, as well as aspects related to confidentiality in the processes involved, structural and functional aspects.
Regarding fiscal intelligence, the discussion focused on the definition of the main functions that this area should include, considering the Dominican Republic current legal framework and the DGII needs. They also considered procedural, human and structural resources aspects in general.
This assistance has been possible thanks to the cooperation agreement between the International Tax Compact and CIAT. Through this agreement, many assistance projects to developing CIAT member countries have been provided for research, audit sectors, Economic international taxation and information technology applied to tax administration, among other important aspects for the tax administrations.
