CIAT participated in the ECOSOC Special Meeting on Tax Cooperation

On March 28, 2025, the Executive Secretary of the Inter-American Center of Tax Administrations (CIAT), Mr. Márcio Ferreira Verdi, participated in the Special Meeting of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) on International Cooperation in Tax Matters, held at the UN headquarters in New York.

The event brought together senior government officials, international experts and representatives of multilateral organizations, within the framework of the thirtieth session of the Committee of Experts on International Cooperation in Tax Matters. Among the topics discussed were the promotion of a more inclusive and effective international tax cooperation, as well as the integration of the gender approach in the design and implementation of tax policies.

CIAT’s participation reaffirms its commitment to strengthening the tax systems of its member countries, and its active contribution to multilateral efforts to move towards more equitable global tax governance, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), one of the six main bodies of the United Nations since its founding in 1945, is a key platform for promoting dialogue, reaching consensus and coordinating actions aimed at implementing the three dimensions of sustainable development: economic, social and environmental. It is also responsible for following up on the outcomes of major UN conferences and summits.
