25 years of SAT in Guatemala
Guatemala’s Superintendency of Tax Administration reached a milestone on its 25th anniversary this year. SAT was created in 1998 within the framework of the Peace Accords with the mission of providing the State with the necessary resources to fulfill its objectives and responsibilities. The initiative gave it greater management autonomy while integrating customs and internal tax operations.
On the occasion of SAT’s 25th anniversary, an International Tax Seminar and Forum was organized in Guatemala City between July 12 and 14. The event, inaugurated by Superintendent Marco Livio Díaz, had at its inaugural executive council the following intendants: Fernando Suriano, from Collection; Óscar Hernández, from Auditing, and Werner Ovalle, from Customs. During the inauguration, a homage was paid to Mr. José Alejandro Arevalo for his role in the process of creating SAT.
The Inter-American Center of Tax Administrations, of which Guatemala is a founding member, presented a commemorative plaque to the Superintendent of SAT. Additionally, as well as a mola with the institutional logo. Mariano Rojo, Head of the Spanish Mission to CIAT; and Raul Zambrano, Director of Technical Assistance and ICT.
Speakers from various countries and organizations participated in the event, in which Raul Zambrano presented on the topic of Digital Economy and Taxation, while Mariano Rojo spoke on Cooperative Compliance.
