AEAT of Spain and CIAT provide mutual assistance on “Tax Information International Exchange”
A study visit was made on October 25 to 27, 2010, to the AEAT of Spain’s Central Information Team in the City of Madrid, in order to assist the Latin American tax administrations who have started working in this area.
The Latin American countries that attended the CIAT/OECD seminar on “tax information exchange offices” held in Mexico City last March made some specific requests, one of which especially dealt with the experience presented by the AEAT.
Such request resulted in a visit by officials from Latin American tax administrations (Brazil, Costa Rica, Panama and Paraguay) to the facilities of the Institute of Fiscal Studies and the AEAT’s Central Information Team to learn about the legal and procedural aspects used by AEAT in exchanging information at the international level. The event was inaugurated by Messrs. José María Labeaga (General Director of the Institute of Fiscal Studies of Spain), Vicente Peirats (Head of AEAT’s International Relations Coordination Unit), Luis Cremades (Head of the Spanish Mission at CIAT) and Gonzalo Arias Esteban (CIAT Manager of International Cooperation). It was held at the IEF offices and was conducted by Mrs. Milagros Arias De la Vega (Head of AEAT’s Central Information Team) and María José Garde Garde (Competent Authority of Direct Taxation at the AEAT); with the participation, as well, of all officials of the Central Information Team office. This experience constitutes an example for the international community of collaboration with the countries that are initiating international tax information exchange or else, endeavor to strengthen their capabilities to cooperate in this sphere. In this respect, the AEAT authorities expressed the possibility of evaluating requests for technical assistance at an operational level for those CIAT member countries requesting it. |
