CIAT, IDB, EUROsociAL and UNED Sponsored a Public-Private Workshop on Prevention and Resolution of Tax Disputes
On June 14, 2024, the Inter-American Center of Tax Administrations (CIAT), the EUROsociAL Program, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), and the National University of Distance Education of Spain (UNED) co-sponsored a public-private Workshop on Prevention and Resolution of Tax Disputes, at the Mexico City campus of UNED. There were 40 participants from various government areas (tax administrations, administrative tax courts, and collection agencies), from sponsoring organizations, and from the International Monetary Fund.
The purpose of this workshop was to address, alongside various business representatives and tax advisors, critical issues related to the prevention and resolution of tax disputes. To this end, four round tables were held, made up of government officials (tax administrations and administrative tax courts) and representatives from the private sector.
Among the main conclusions of the discussions were the need to: improve the design of tax rules and procedures, generate a common understanding of the concept of “certainty”, increase the level of “certainty” within the tax administration, harmonize criteria to provide consistency, define mechanisms that allow a better understanding of business by the tax administration, adopt a risk-based management approach, pay attention to speed in complex procedures, among other aspects.
