The CIAT Executive Secretary, Mr. Márcio F. Verdi, participated in Paris, last January 25, with the Minister of Economy and Finance of the region, in the creation of the LAC Initiative promoted by the OECD.

This initiative is aimed at promoting a dialogue network that will cover tax public, investment and public governance.

On that occasion, following up on the statements of the Ministers, the Executive Secretary had the opportunity to present the CIAT Strategic Directions, its interest in the importance of coordinating the activities of the different organizations acting in the LAC region, to avoid duplication of actions and efforts by the countries.

In this respect, the Executive Secretary offered CIAT as venue for the Micro-Simulations Analysis Seminar, proposed by the LAC Initiative, since CIAT has been dealing with this issue in close collaboration with the Institute of Fiscal Studies of Spain and a seminar is scheduled to be held in Panama this year.

As seen, the LAC Initiative will complement the work of key regional institutions and further strengthen the public policy activities, especially in the fiscal area.
