Conference of Cross-border VAT/GST Disputes: Exploring Prevention and Resolution Mechanisms

Dear colleagues,

We are delighted to invite you to the Conference “Cross-border VAT/GST Disputes: Exploring Prevention and Resolution Mechanisms” scheduled to take place in Vienna on January 21-22, 2025. This event is organized by the Global Tax Policy Center of the Institute for Austrian and International Tax Law at the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU).

This conference represents a significant milestone in the project on cross-border VAT/GST disputes carried on by the Vienna Multistakeholder Group on VAT and Disputes. With VAT/GST now widely adopted worldwide, the growth of international trade enabled by digital advancements, and new business models emerging, cross-border VAT/GST disputes have become a pressing issue for multi-jurisdictional businesses. These disputes can pose substantial obstacles to cross-border trade and investment, underscoring the need for efficient and timely solutions. The study by WU GTPC addresses these challenges by identifying causes of cross-border VAT/GST disputes and developing a set of tools to minimize and resolve them effectively.

The Conference will convene leading experts, practitioners, and stakeholders to discuss the evolving landscape of VAT/GST in a digital world and its cross-border implications. Participants will have the opportunity to explore the root causes of VAT/GST disputes, gain insights into the changing role of VAT/GST in the digital era, and examine innovative tools and strategies for the prevention and resolution of these disputes. For more details, please refer to the event webpage on the Institute’s website.

Please use the online form to register for the conference. In case you have any questions, please contact Ms. Alba Bejleri (alba.bejleri@wu.ac.at) for more information.

We look forward to welcoming you to Vienna for this important conference.

Best regards,

Richard Stern
