Costa Rica celebrates 100 years of creating the General Directorate of Taxation

As part of the activities to commemorate the 100th anniversary of General Taxation Directorate of the Finance Ministry of Costa Rica, on Wednesday, June 28, 2017, a ceremonial act was held, with the participation of the President of the Republic, accompanied by Carlos Vargas, Director General of Taxation, and other authorities.

This activity was attended by numerous members of international organizations, professional associations, business chambers, among others, and with the outstanding intervention of Mr. Gonzalo Arias, Director of International Cooperation and Taxation of the Inter-American Center of Tax Administrations, who gave a keynote address on the challenges faced by tax administrations in Latin America, in relation to the problem of tax bases erosion and profit shifting. Mr. Arias highlighted the great progress made by Costa Rica in meeting the transparency standards demanded by the Global Forum on Transparency and Information Exchange of the OECD.
