June 9, 2008 – In the framework of research promotion initiatives, one of the most relevant pillars of academic activity, the Argentine Institute for Public Finance Studies (IEFPA, as per the Spanish acronym) opens the 2008 Essay Contest, whose main theme is “Tax management in an accumulation model with social inclusion”.
Aimed at fostering scientific knowledge and tied to areas relevant to Public Finance, the IEFPA organizes this contest every year and extends awards to the best essays on the issue. The winners shall receive different types of scholarships and their essays, together with the work of guest experts, shall be included in the technical documents to be studied and discussed in the 18th International Tax Administrators Meeting to be held on 6-10 December of 2008, in the city of Mar del Plata, Argentina.
The meeting’s key objective shall be to reflect upon the demand facing current government administrations in keeping the balance between social demands and financial needs, avoiding two types of social conflicts, in turn: on the one hand, those arising from the lack of public sector financing; and on the other, those tied to the specific tax collection activity and government expenditure administration and control –whether based on inadequate tax burdens or by acts of corruption in the administration of public funds-.
