The DGII of the Dominican Republic receives specialized advice from the State Tax Administration Agency (AEAT) under the CIAT – GIZ Cooperation Agreement

CIAT coordinated a short-term technical assistance under the CIAT-GIZ cooperation agreement, and with the support of the AEAT, for the Directorate General of Internal Taxes (DGII) of the Dominican Republic. The advisory, which took place from May 22 to 26, 2017, in the city of Santo Domingo, aimed to assist the DGII in the implementation and optimization of fiscal control mechanisms in the production of alcohol and tobacco products, considering the adjustments of the necessary technological applications, in order to increase the preventive control and improve the control of the tax behavior of taxpayers from these sectors.

During the visit to Santo Domingo, the Spanish expert, in addition to reviewing current regulations, visited the country’s alcohol and cigarette plants to verify the security mechanisms and controls, as well as held meetings with officials in charge of the factories and follow-up officers for Alcohols and Tobacco.

As a result of this exchange, the DGII will be able to take a step forward in automating the information required from taxpayers and in implementing more efficient control mechanisms in the circulation of products.
