Trinidad and Tobago signed the Multilateral Convention on Mutual Administrative Assistance in Tax Matters
Trinidad and Tobago has taken a significant step in global tax cooperation by being the 149th country to sign the Multilateral Convention on Mutual Administrative Assistance in Tax Matters at the OECD Headquarters in Paris on November 7, 2024. This will enable Trinidad and Tobago to exchange tax information with 148 other jurisdictions, enforcing the country’s commitment to improve tax transparency. Additionally, it may improve the country’s revenue collection and strengthen its reputation as a trade partner; fostering economic cooperation and attracting foreign investments. As part of this commitment, Trinidad and Tobago has also signed the Multilateral Competent Authority Agreement on Automatic Exchange of Financial Account Information (CRS MCAA) and Multilateral Competent Authority Agreement on the Exchange of Country-by-Country Reports (CbC MCAA), which will enhance their ability to monitor multinational enterprises and prevent aggressive tax planning. The CIAT Executive Secretary congratulates the government of Trinidad and Tobago for this significant accomplishment.
