Executive Secretary Participates in National Tax Compliance Meeting
The National Tax Compliance Meeting organized by the National Tax Superintendency (SUNAT) was held in Lima, Peru on February 17 and 18.
The purpose of this important event was to disseminate the Institutional Operational Plan for the current year among directors of SUNAT’s Internal Tax operational areas, officials from the normative areas and high level management, as well as to reinforce such concepts as team work, alignment and decision-making.
The CIAT Executive Secretary, Mr. Márcio F. Verdi, was invited to make the inaugural presentation which dealt with “The Importance of the Tax Administration in the Country’s Development”, covering key concepts and challenges faced by the Tax Administrations. It was also focused on the main problems of equity, social acceptance and collection efficiency and how they are being faced through the application of electronic tools and tax culture programs. Mr. Verdi also discussed transfer pricing, tax havens and cooperation among tax administrations to avoid international tax fraud, as well as the value of the service rendered by the tax administrations to Society and the State and the need that it be perceived as a quality service.
Other presentations considered the perspectives of the Peruvian economy, of SUNAT and the need to work in teams and aligned with the institutional objectives. Specific proposals of the Institutional Operational Plan were discussed and workshops were also held for considering best practices in achieving the proposed goals.
