Successful conclusion of the CIAT 2020 October meeting
On October 20-21, 2020, CIAT held the October 2020 Meeting with the central theme “The Tax Administration and the COVID-19 Crisis” in virtual mode. It was a two-day event with high-level panelists from CIAT member tax administrations.
The CIAT Executive Secretary, Mr. Márcio Ferreira Verdi, opened this great event, welcoming all participants. Subsequently, the Director of Tax Studies and Research, Santiago Díaz de Sarralde Miguez, presented the inaugural lecture “Impact of the Pandemic on the Revenues of CIAT member countries”.
The meeting consisted of 3 panels. Panel 1: “Adaptation of the Tax Administrations to the COVID-19 Crisis” was held on the first day, with the participation of panelists from Canada, France, India, Jamaica and Kenya.
Subsequently, two countries: The United States of America and Italy presented their experiences with the COVID-19 crisis.
On the second and last day of the Meeting. The opening conference was presented by the Deputy Director CPTA-OECD, Grace Perez Navarro with the topic “Consensus Perspectives for the Taxation of the Digital Economy”.
Two panels were developed:
- Panel 2 with the theme “Challenges and opportunities for tax administration in the post-pandemic period”, where panelists from 6 countries participated: Chile, Ecuador, Honduras, Mexico, Portugal, and the Dominican Republic.
- Panel 3 whose theme was “Challenges and opportunities for the tax administration in the post-pandemic, with the participation of panelists from: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Spain, Guatemala and the IDB.
Concluding the meeting. Mr. Marco Livio Díaz Reyes, Superintendent of SAT of Guatemala, presented the video invitation to the General Assembly, No. 55 to be held in that country in 2021.
Mr. Luis Valdez, Director General of the General Directorate of Internal Taxes (DGII) of the Dominican Republic and President of the CIAT Executive Council, delivered the closing remarks of this important meeting.
