Secretariat of Federal Revenues of Brazil-RFB and Japanese Customs Office Negotiate Agreement in Tokyo

Brazil and Japan are negotiating an agreement on mutual administrative cooperation and assistance in customs issues.  Marcos Aurélio Pereira Valadão representing the General Coordination of International Relations –CORIN-RFB met in Tokyo with representatives of the Customs & Tariff Bureau of the Ministry of Finance of Japan on December 3-5.

 

Agreement – The agreement promotes cooperation between the customs administrations in order to correctly apply the customs legislation, guarantee the safety of international trade logistics in order to prevent, investigate and curb customs violations.

The agreement allows for the exchange of information, application of best practices and facilitation of trade in order to render it more efficient and safe.

 

Procedure – The text of the agreement will be sent to the Ministry of Finance for its review and presentation to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which in turn, shall send it to the National Congress.

 

Teams – representing the RFB was the general coordinator of CORIN, Marcos Aurélio Pereira Valadão and the head of  DIRIN / CORIN, Rosemary Rolando Deolindo.The representatives of Japan were the Director of International Customs Cooperation, Masao ONU, the Deputy Director of International Cooperation, Toshihiko Osawa, the Head of the Customs Cooperation Division, Takeshi Yonemaru and the Deputy Director of Customs Information and Inspection, Naoya Oook.

The General Director of Customs of Japan, Atsuo Shibota, welcomed the Brazilian delegation in his office.

There was a positive change in tax collection in the last three months of the year

The collection of revenues administered by DIAN amounted to $65.2 billion in 2010, which represented a 2.2 per cent increase in comparison with 2009 collection.
